April 19th 2014: Call for participation in Auckland Conference

ARLIS/ANZ Conference
‘He Raranga Toi’
Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki
New Zealand
15-17 October 2014

Call for Participation and Online Proposal Form

The 2014 Art Libraries Society of Australia and New Zealand (ARLIS/ANZ) conference is focused on the concept ‘He Raranga Toi’: weaving together the threads of art knowledge. How do we share our special skills and collections with our research and artistic communities? How do we both retain and broaden our relevance to those communities? The conference addresses art librarians, artists, scholars, curators, critics, educators, students and other visual arts professionals.

There are a number of ways you can share your ideas and expertise:

Present a paper (30 minutes)
Individuals or groups are invited to submit proposals for papers that expand on the conference theme in relation to the broad topics below:

• Art archives
- contemporary and historic, exhibitions, personal papers, new initiatives

• Art education
– 21st century skills, library/education programmes, pedagogy, resources

• Art publishing
– print and online, e-books, suppliers, collection policies, projects

• Creating tools
– old and new technologies, online resources, databases, collaborations

• Digitisation
– planning, selection, access, funding, sharing, strategies

• Measuring success
– statistics, reporting, marketing and promotion

Lead a break-out session (45 minutes)
Individuals or pairs are invited to lead a group discussion on a proposed ‘practical’ topic such as:

• Copyright

• Collection development

• Digital strategy

• Ephemera

• Information literacy

• Interns and volunteers

• Publication exchange

Tell us about your place (10 minutes)
Individuals or groups are invited to submit a proposal to present a virtual visit to your place of work in 10 slides or less.

Become a Member

Membership of ARLIS/ANZ is open to individuals and institutions from Australia and New Zealand and includes a discount rate on the fees for the biennial ARLIS/ANZ conference, and eligiblity for the grants and awards programmes.

Membership Rates

As clarified at the 2012 AGM, from 2013, memberships will expire on 31/12 of the current year no matter when the member joined or paid their membership renewal fees. This was to simplify management of the membership payments by the treasurer. Renewals notices were toi be sent to the e-list at the start of each calendar year.

In hindsight as many people but particularly institutions are not easily able to organise payments in December we changed the membership year to March 1st to the end of Feb and organised for a renewal reminder to be sent on Jan 31st to give 4 weeks notice re the payment.

For any membership payments after February, membership renewals are due before March 1st the following year.

Prices from 2013 were changed from $33 to $35 and $55 to $70.

$35 AUD - Australian and International* Personal Membership
$70 AUD - Australian and International* Institutional Membership

*New Zealand rates are automatically calculated against a currency exchange within the registration form as previously advised.
